Web Apps Making Businesses Vulnerable
According to IBM's latest X-Force Trend and Risk report, businesses are making it easier for hackers to sneak onto their legitimate sites, exposing customers to security threats, because they are not keeping them updated with the latest software patches.
internetnews.com reports that Web applications are particularly troublesome. The report found that around 55 percent of all vulnerability disclosures last year involved off-the-shelf Web applications. What's more, 74 percent of all Web application vulnerabilities didn't even have a patch available by the end of the year, according to InformationWeek.
But not all of the blame can be put on businesses. The report notes that hackers are turning to new methods to penetrate systems, including leveraging downloadable documents, multimedia, Java and ActiveX applications.
