Max Caceres, a key member of Core Security’s product team for 10 years, is joining Matasano Security as the director of research and development. Caceres, along with Ivan Arce, Core’s CTO, has been the point man for Core’s public efforts for thelast several years. In an email interview, Caceres, who officially starts with Matasano today, said that he’s looking forward to the opportunity to work at Matasano, but added that he sees nothing but good things ahead for Core.

“I have been at Core for almost 10 years and have had the opportunity to build a product, CORE IMPACT, from the ground up and work to help Core become a leader in the security assessment space. Core is doing great: we have over 500 customers and are growing really fast. So for me this felt like the right time to make a change. I feel very fortunate having had the chance to work with such a great team at Core. I have nothing but gratitude and respect for the company and its people. Years ago when we started working on IMPACT the thought of building an automated penetration testing product with reliable “commercial-grade” exploits was met with a great deal of skepticism. Today Core has a product that continually gets rave reviews from customers and industry experts alike. I am very confident the company will continue to automate and simplify the security testing process to the point everyone will be able to take advantage of this critical testing process.”

Matasano, which is headed by Dave Goldsmith and Tom Ptacek, is a boutique security consultancy that specializes in analyzing the security of vendors’ products, either before they’re brought to market or as an enterprise is planning a deployment. Ptacek said the Matasano team is eager to get Caceres on board and engaged in that process. “We’re incredibly psyched to be working with Max after
witnessing almost a decade of his work with one of the greatest teams in all of security, at CORE,” he said.
